My homage to Samuel Palmer. I've loved Palmer since I was a teenager, and first visited Shoreham in the mid 1990s. The Darent Valley is Palmer's Valley of Vision and retains much of the beauty and magic that he found there. Water House where he lived is just to the right of this viewpoint and there is a plaque on the wall. I've brought the gate down from up further up in the village. You'll see it if you walk up to the war memorial on the hill. The hare is from Palmer's sepia drawing Early Morning in the Ashmolean, so I've brought him back for a visit 200 years later, and who is that at the end of the bridge with an easel I wonder?
